Babies, SOON
posted 02.23.2005 by Kristen

Today we had our final ultrasound. That's right, the last one before the big day! We have ultrasounds every 3 weeks, and the perinatologist is going to recommend to my OBs that I deliver in two weeks, so no more ultrasounds for us.

The reason is because the girls' growth is slowing a bit. At our last ultrasound, Baby A was estimated at 4 lbs. even and Baby B was estimated at 3 lbs., 9 oz. This time Baby A was estimated at 5 lbs. even and Baby B was 4 lbs., 11 oz. So they each gained about a pound in three weeks, but the average weight gain for this time period should be more like 1/2 pound to a pound per week. Everything is fine with them; it's just that their growth is starting to fall a little behind the curve. Sometimes, especially with identicals sharing a placenta, the placenta starts to break down toward the end of a twin pregnancy and it doesn't provide nutrition as well as it should, so it's better to just go ahead and deliver so the babies can grow better outside the womb.

I'm currently 35 weeks, and he's recommending that I deliver at 37 weeks, which is considered full term for twins. He also said that if I go into labor before then, they shouldn't try to stop it. Our next OB appointment is next Tuesday, March 1, so I assume we'll set a definite induction date then. Eek! Babies are really on their way now!

Cats in the Cradle

IMG_2023_sm.jpgWell, in the crib, anyway.

Yes, the cats seem to think that all the lovely equipment, etc., that we've brought into the house in the last several months is JUST FOR THEM! Clearly, why else would it be here if not for them?

I figured it was inevitable that they'd sleep in the cribs. I mean, look at all that lovely late afternoon sunshine there is to soak up! And Mr. Kitty does look awfully saucy here, doesn't he? He knows I put this lovely mattress here just for him. You can see it in his eyes!

img_2032_sm.jpg Plus, Mr. Kitty can hardly be faulted for sleeping in the boppy pillow, right?

I mean, we've always known that he has a love for sleeping in anything small and circular, so the boppy was a natural for him.

img_2072_sm.jpgBut really, inside the crib drawers? That's where I have to draw the line.

I mean, I guess I did helpfully line the drawers with dozens of fleecy blankets and flannel sheets and terry-cloth changing pad covers and such. THAT I PUT IN THE CRIB DRAWERS SO THEY WOULDN'T GET CAT FUR ALL OVER THEM.

Of course, that was before I realized that the kitties could find a way to get into the crib drawers. So all of that nice, freshly laundered stuff for the babies? Yep, back into the wash. And naturally, now that the crib drawers are empty? The cats have absolutely NO interest in sleeping there anymore. Sigh.

Getting Bigger

Ahh, 33 weeks! A good milestone. My goal is still to make it to at least 36 weeks (which would be March 3), but I am feeling pretty good about how far I've made it.

It's been a while since we've taken/posted any belly shots. I'm a wee bit larger now than the last time we posted, which was 5 weeks ago. And Jim informs me that my belly button has now completely popped. Harrumph.
